Attendance

Attendance at school is very important. If children are not at school they cannot learn.

If your child is absent from school, you should phone 01635 298288 providing the reason for the absence before 8.30am. This is important as we know that the child is absent with your knowledge (and not just decided to miss the bus) and allows us to enter the correct code in the register. If no reason is given for an absence it will be marked as unauthorised.

Hampshire County Council have issued a new Code of Conduct which is applicable from September 2015. The Code of Conduct says:

From September 2015 all schools will be required to work with Hampshire County Council to take legal action if:

1.A child has unauthorised absence for 10 or more sessions (5 days).

2.A child is continually late to school and this lateness is unauthorised for 10 or more sessions.

3.A child has any unauthorised absence during any formal examinations, assessment or testing.

The legal action would normally take the form of a fixed-penalty notice (fine).

Punctuality is also important. Arrivals after 9.30am will be marked as unauthorised absences unless there are special circumstances.

In September 2013 the DfE changed the regulations for children taking holidays during term-time. Family holidays will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any leave of absence has to be requested in advance (a form is available from the school office, a link to the form can also be found below) and will be considered on an individual basis.

Even if your request for absence has not been authorised you should still inform us that you are intending to take your child away, in order that the absence can be coded correctly. If you do not inform us, then you are putting your child in the difficult position of being deceitful to their classteacher and friends.

Formal testing periods for this academic year are as follows:

Monday14th May  – Friday 17th May – Year 6 SATS

Monday 11th June – Friday 15th June – Year 1 phonic screening and retakes for Year 2 children who did not achieve the expected standard.

The Y2 testing period will be in May 2018.

Please note that as the dates are published in advance this can act as a Penalty Notice Warning.
